1 viewsThis Red-Winged Blackbird forces the much larger Great Blue Heron to take flight. The blackbird is protecting his nest while his mate keeps the eggs warm.

Cooper_Hawk_Profile.jpg
Cooper Hawk Profile215 viewsA bird dressed to match the color of the leaves to roost in and watch for meals that crawl or fly nearby.
Cormorant_Taking_Flight.jpg
Cormorant Taking Flight1702 viewsThese birds are so primal it's not even funny. Very difficult to shoot except in great light as the image demonstrates. More talented photographers may be able to capture these modern dinosaurs but I am baffled and awed by their expertise.
Crow_on_Driftwood.jpg
238 viewsCrow on driftwood on the beach at Reedsport, OR. Loved the feel of the toning in sepia of this shot. Converted in Alien Skin Exposure 2 and softly finished in CS4 Curves.
Dispute_1_0.jpg
204 viewsI got this as the middle bird challenged the pair that broke in escape at a near 45 degree angle from me. Liked the light on the water as well.
Egret_Preening.jpg
Egret Preening5 viewsA not unfamiliar beautiful bird striking a pose.
Egret___Heron_in_Oil.jpg
Egret & Heron in Oil3 viewsThis was worked in Adobe Camera RAW, CS4 adjustment layers, and Alienskin Snap Art. The capture was my good fortune.
Feather_Thief_1.jpg
381 viewsA couple of friends (one of which is the guru of the hipikats website) and I like to shoot the swallows (Violet Green here) when they go for feathers for play. Yes, they do use them for their nests, but they play for hours grabbing them off the water, taking them up with their buddies, dropping them in flight and letting someone else carry the feather up and drop it, etc. It is one of the most joyous things in all of the bird world. This rivals the mating dances of the Birds of Paradise to me. Way cool.
