Barn2_1.jpg
286 viewsThis barn in north Douglas County, OR is just another in a state of use and disrepair. What stopped me as I wondered through the county, was the light at the rear of the
barn through the roof and the trees that seem to shelter it with their leaning pose.
Bird-Like.jpg
Bird Like5 viewsA hanging basket plant blossom that is almost translucent with the early evening light.
Blue_Being_Harassed2.jpg
1 viewsThis Red-Winged Blackbird forces the much larger Great Blue Heron to take flight. The blackbird is protecting his nest while his mate keeps the eggs warm.
Cormorant_Taking_Flight.jpg
Cormorant Taking Flight1701 viewsThese birds are so primal it's not even funny. Very difficult to shoot except in great light as the image demonstrates. More talented photographers may be able to capture these modern dinosaurs but I am baffled and awed by their expertise.
Courthouse_Facade~0.jpg
233 viewsA partly cloudy day (duh!) with the light on the far end of the building. It's the courthouse facade here in Douglas County, OR. The flag of the United States is just visible at the middle of the building.
Dark_Church_Tower_2.jpg
1 viewsI really punched this up in Adobe Camera RAW, Photomatix PRO (HDR processor software), and finally in curves in CS4. I wanted it to look imposing and very old and symbolic of early western European architecture for religious buildings as possible. The clouds and brilliant light and enhanced grainy feel feel good in an impending doom sort of way (humor, here).
Dispute_1_0.jpg
204 viewsI got this as the middle bird challenged the pair that broke in escape at a near 45 degree angle from me. Liked the light on the water as well.

Evening_Light.jpg
Evening Light95 viewsTaken on Calf Creek that tumbles down from the Cascades to the Umpqua River. Processed in RAW and CS4 filters and curves.
Feather_Thief_1.jpg
381 viewsA couple of friends (one of which is the guru of the hipikats website) and I like to shoot the swallows (Violet Green here) when they go for feathers for play. Yes, they do use them for their nests, but they play for hours grabbing them off the water, taking them up with their buddies, dropping them in flight and letting someone else carry the feather up and drop it, etc. It is one of the most joyous things in all of the bird world. This rivals the mating dances of the Birds of Paradise to me. Way cool.
Flow___Light.jpg
Flow and Light189 viewsThis is symmetry and sensuous color. Very tight at the bottom of the image.
Really interpretive in nature.
GB_b-w_Flight_3.jpg
35 viewsThe heron is between myself and the lens. The silhouette is enough but the exposure also has the detail of the profile which makes this work in complete allegiance to the grace and beauty of this magnificent bird.
