Cormorant Taking Flight1701 viewsThese birds are so primal it's not even funny. Very difficult to shoot except in great light as the image demonstrates. More talented photographers may be able to capture these modern dinosaurs but I am baffled and awed by their expertise.
Emile_Creek_B-W.jpg
477 viewsMonotone workup. Published in the September 2009 issue of Shutterbug Magazine. It's in the "Picture This" feature of the 'zine.
Feather_Thief_1.jpg
381 viewsA couple of friends (one of which is the guru of the hipikats website) and I like to shoot the swallows (Violet Green here) when they go for feathers for play. Yes, they do use them for their nests, but they play for hours grabbing them off the water, taking them up with their buddies, dropping them in flight and letting someone else carry the feather up and drop it, etc. It is one of the most joyous things in all of the bird world. This rivals the mating dances of the Birds of Paradise to me. Way cool.
Fern_Riot_Tapestry.jpg
303 viewsEveryone who has held a camera and shoots landscapes falls victim to ferns of any size or display in the spring. This Sword Fern (?) just caught me eye when I was shooting water recently. The red and the metallic green stopped me in my tracks.
Dogwood_Trio~0.jpg
Dogwood Trio295 viewsThis blossom display is just a small example of the beauty of this tree.
Barn2_1.jpg
286 viewsThis barn in north Douglas County, OR is just another in a state of use and disrepair. What stopped me as I wondered through the county, was the light at the rear of the
barn through the roof and the trees that seem to shelter it with their leaning pose.
Bee___Blossom.jpg
274 viewsOK, this is a little trickery with Photoshop CS4 and demonstrating the clarity of a macro lens. I have to use a tripod for most of my close up photography whether macro or zoom. Being able to enlarge the subject in this manner seemed like a nice touch.
North_Jackson.jpg
263 viewsNear the end of our main street to the south. What struck me, aside from the clouds and sunlight, was the white object in the window above the jutting sign and through the tree.
Shifting_Realities.jpg
252 viewsAn HDR with movement by the humans (a photo group I now participate with). These guys are great shooters, even if one of them is trying to break his camera by shooting me shoot this shot.
Not_So_Main_Street.jpg
248 viewsA characteristic of Roseburg, OR is that Main Street is not the main thoroughfare of the downtown area. The post office located there which might explain why this street was name "Main Street."
Leaves_in_Water~0.jpg
Leaves in Water242 viewsFrom the same stream with the single leaf in further decay than these. The ripples in the water are key for me.
Crow_on_Driftwood.jpg
238 viewsCrow on driftwood on the beach at Reedsport, OR. Loved the feel of the toning in sepia of this shot. Converted in Alien Skin Exposure 2 and softly finished in CS4 Curves.
